Soup n Sandwich Nostalgia

My grandpa was a chef, and I'll always remember going to my grandpa's restaurant and ordering a grilled cheese sandwitch on white bread, steak fries, and a glass of Coke (preferably with more than 3 marrachino cherries at the bottom of the glass!)

Grilled cheese will always remind me of my grandpa, without a doubt he made THE best grilled cheese a 5 year old could ask for.  I've been hoping to recreate a delicious tomato bisque soup I had ordered when I was in Boston for a week & pair it with the ever-favorite grilled cheese sandwich.  A good winter-comfort-food meal.   The soup was tasty, but could use perfecting.  I may try it next time sans the beans, in hopes for a more creamy base.  The grilled cheese, although not my grandpas, tasted divine with the soup ;)

Baking and Frisbee

Two zucchini bread loaves and a batch of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies later, it was past 11pm and I found myself wondering why I was still awake. I guess I figured with Mike being out of town this week & with more time on my hands in the evening- I'd bake for our weekend trip to the coast.
I also managed to make it out to Ultimate Frisbee. I had gone to the chiropractor that afternoon and was "put back in place" (bye bye headache!), but then found myself on my knees with a grass stain accross my leg after some guy was "going for the frisbee" and he "didn't see me" and knocked me straight on the ground! Oh well, the poor guy felt bad and quickly had me back on my feet before I really even realized I was even on the ground. Here's a pic of us after the game looking rather neon Easter-y.

The air is on for the first time this week, the clothes are making that "drying, button-hitting-the-sides-of-metal-dryer-sound", and I'm looking forward to sharing the Cal King bed again- its much too big for just one ;)  Happy Friday to be!

Raspberry Coffee Cake

I made a Raspberry Coffee Cake last night from a recipe in this months Betther Homes and Gardens.  It was quite tasty!  For some reason my camera makes the 2nd picture appear that it is green, but don't worry, its not!

Rusty

I think I have a thing for rust.  In the past week I picked up these rusty items.  The big "meat hook" I found in at a local rummage sale in Downtown.   The guy "had to have $5 for", which I got for $5, but I paired it with a brand new garden pot ;)   I plan to hang my ironing board with the meat hook- an idea I saw in a PB magazine.  The two sconce's I got from 4 Sisters Thrift.

Things I've learned

1.  God was so gracious to Adam and Eve in the garden.  They disobeyed Him and yet He still displayed grace by even the simple act of making them garments.  Blows me away.

2.  We are not "basically good". If left to our own devices- man is truly wretched.

"The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately sick
who can understand it?"

-Jeremiah 17:9

5 Things I've learned of late:

1. When someone gives you a gift, do your best to open it in front of them before the night is over.  Just don't tear into into the second they give it to you.

2.  Be ready to hug people, even if you thought they didn't want a hug. Be ready.

3.  Don't assume people are being sarcastic.  Assume they are telling the truth.  You look like a jerk when they are being serious and you thought they weren't

4.   As a hostess; avoid the "I don't want to be rude & be the first in line" principal.  How? Hand people part of the dish (maybe put the meat on a plate) and hand it out, they they are free to get the rest of the food buffet style at a gathering. They are much more willing to go get their food and feel ok about it.

5. Remember to publicly praise someone.  Even if they don't like it, deep down they do.  It lets others know you appreciate the person and it lets them in on just how great that person is!

This was too funny not to share!
